In 2009 Purdue University started the Common Reading Program, the implementation of a selected title into the curriculum, to help encourage students and the surrounding community to read. Now in its third year, the 2011 CRP book is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (published by Random House). After some research into providing a download option for the 2011-2012 school year, the university decided on OverDrive as its delivery solution.

While OverDrive offers distribution options to more than 15,000 libraries and schools, the addition of multichannel distribution can help gain customers, and ultimately revenue. So OverDrive has taken the initiative to offer its services of building a temporary webpage for partners, including schools, libraries, and retailers. Their customers then use this page to download a title selection or an entire eBook as part of a digital promotion. (The download is completed with a unique code.) For additional information about multichannel promotions, please contact pubinfo@overdrive.com.
